3rd Grade: Hold Each Other Up

Be sure to teach Lessons 1 and 2, Lingít Music and Tribal Values, before teaching these 1st Grade lessons focused on Holding Each Other Up:
  • Dikéexʼ wooch g̱aylasháat
           Hold each other up
  • Wóoch eenx̱ haa siteeyí, wooch dusx̱áni, wooch éet wutudasheeyí
When weʼre together, we love each other, we help each other
LESSON PLAN: See Music Lesson Template for Outline
  • In addition to singing the Honor Chant: A Gaanax.adi Chant and Wooch.een Song, the students will stand and listen to, but NOT PERFORM, the Yaakw Sheeyí Canoe Song, which is a migration song owned by the Daḵl'aweidí clan. Migration song are considered a clanʼs at.oow, which is translated as "an owned or purchased object" including land, names, stories, songs and crests. These songs validate the story of the Daḵl'aweidí migration after the flood. By listening to the Yaakw Sheeyí Canoe Song, teachers and students learn that migration songs are a clanʼs precious at.oow and are heard to bear witness an important part of a clanʼs history. It can be heard as witness to those stories, but not performed by those outside of the clan.
